Took Furloughs in 2020? See New IRS Guidance

This message is related to impacts of last year’s furloughs implemented by your employer. Guidance from IRS here.

If you received unemployment benefits in 2020 and have adjusted gross income of $150,000 or less, $10,200 of those unemployment benefits are excluded from gross income and exempt from federal income tax.

This benefit is an important but overlooked provision of the recently passed American Recovery Plan Act of 2021, which passed thanks to AFSCME staff and engaged members like you.

The Act also provided individual stimulus payments and gave states, local governments, and schools a lifeline of funding so we can continue providing Washington residents with the services they deserve.
