Olympia, Wash. — The Washington Federation of State Employees (AFSCME Council 28) Executive Committee released the following statement in recognition of US Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman’s bravery during the insurrection at the U.S Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Alone and faced with a violent mob, Officer Eugene Goodman led rioters away from the Senate chambers and toward fellow officers. His restraint and quick thinking bought elected officials critical time and undoubtedly prevented further loss of life.

January 6 was a dark day in our country’s history that will not soon be forgotten. But let us also not forget the public servants like Officer Goodman, whose bravery, selflessness and commitment to service were on full display.

Do not forget the name Eugene Goodman. May he be an example to all law enforcement and public safety officers everywhere who are dedicated TO protecting our democracy, communities, and families.
